The other offender was just a stupid orphan (also with dyslexia - but not intelligent - he was not in the majority of dyslexics)., so, what can you expect but that he would be easily led into doing wrong. If you are interested in dyslexia, unwed motherhood, and/or police officer's personal relationships this could be the book for you.
A man comes toward the (supposed) mother of the girl with a knife in his hand, struggles with her, grabs her ankles, never identifies himself in any way - but he CAN and is talking. A girl is found murdered, beaten and stabbed.
The very first character I cared about and was interested in, was the mother, Abigail - unfortunately she disappeared after that, and it was all about a GBI detective, Will, who somehow obtained an advanced degree without being able to read, fill out applications, etc, and Faith, a police officer who had an illegitimate child at age 15 and is now very concerned with her love life. Taking this to mean that he's the killer, she kills him.
It's discovered fairly quickly that he isn't the killer, but one of the victims, who acts very inappropriately in a crucial situation. As for the victim and the main offender, well, not much was told.
Oh, I also liked the dog, Betty.
I really loved Triptych when I read it, but it took me some time to warm up to Fractured. I think it makes him more of a fully flushed-out character, and that's why I root for him in the end.But enough about Will. Not only is this the story of a brutal kidnapping (or murder. He's awkward, socially inept, and at times, easily flustered. Also, Slaughter does a good job of telling a story about the foster care system, and how shared upbringings can have very different results. I tend to waffle back and forth in my belief of the scenario but by the time I get to the end, I have to admit that I feel for him. Will Trent is a very unconventional main character -- after all, he's a GBI investigator that can't read. The real mystery here, What Has Happened to Emma., is a good one.
Slaughter takes his illiteracy and really makes it matter, as his dyslexia leads to him discovering some key facts later than he should. I'm glad she's decided to give him a partner and really test his comfort zone. or both)., but much like in Triptych, you're never completely sure who are the good guys and who are the bad. There is not yet a third book in this series, but I hope there will be.
One of the best books I've read this year. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.Having lived in Atlanta I'm very familiar with the area described in the book and it's very accurate.Karin Slaughter has raised the bar.
Brilliant couldn't put the book down Karen Slaugher is a fantastic writer just love her.
Im torn if he should be with Angie or not, I don't even think he knows. I like this new cast of characters for Karin Slaughter. I like Faith and glad that he's getting a partner now. Will Trent is a great character. Its shocking how messed up his previously life was that he's somewhat normal. It will be interesting to see how well they work together. Cannot wait for the next book.
